Julie Piché
Montreal, CanadaBiography
A Montreal native, Julie Piché had planned on becoming an engineer even though her artistic sensibilities predestined her to the fine arts.
After several years of practising in an engineering firm, she finally decided to embrace her true passion: the visual arts.
In the process of completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Concordia University, this dedicated and rigorous artist seeks to get to where you wouldn’t expect to find her.
About the artwork
As a thought-provoking gesture aimed at the spectator, her suggestion to Reset-toi, toi-même! (go reset yourself!) is intended as a response to the Art Souterrain 2020 Festival’s theme: Reset.
By turning the text into a script, it is brought to life in the form of a conversation between two individuals. It could also be a conversation a person might have with themselves in their own mind as they try to resolve the inner conflict between their desire to find the solution and their desire to conform to current customs.
The tone of the lines is authentic and unhesitatingly confrontational. Visually, the text, which has been printed on large repositionable self-adhesive vinyl sheets, is presented in an oversized and readable format.
