Biography

Kent Monkman is a Canadian artist of Cree ancestry working with a variety of techniques including painting, engraving, film and video, performance and installation.
His work has been presented in numerous solo exhibitions (Montreal Museum of Fine
Arts, Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Art Gallery of
Hamilton, Woodlands Cultural Center, Glenbow) and many group exhibitions ( Peabody
Essex Museum and MASS MOCA in the United States, the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Witte de With in Rotterdam, the Maison Rouge in Paris, the National Gallery of Canada) as well as We Come in Peace: Histories of the Americas touring North America and at the 2007 Biennale de Montreal and the 2010 Sydney Biennale.

His work is represented in numerous public and private collections including the National Gallery of Canada, the Denver Art Museum, Musée d’art contemporain de Rochechouart, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, la Fondation de la Maison Rouge (Paris), the Musée d’art contemporain de Montreal, Rideau Hall, Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery, the Glenbow Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, the Vancouver Art Gallery, Claridge, BMO Financial Group and the RBC Art Collection.
