About the artwork

Trim the Walls (2021)

Rogner les murs is an “oxygen-sculpture” created from everyday objects that have been diverted from their original function. The work generates alternations between construction, reconstruction and destruction. Different objects moulded in gypsum cement are sometimes coloured with dry pigment, while others are perforated and encrusted with recuperated materials and arranged to form modular structures. The maps of Port-au-Prince and Montreal are engraved, intertwined with lines of hands to represent a fabricated space.

These different strategies are mobilized to underline the extensibility of the world. This sculptural installation carries the idea that our seemingly fixed categories are instead changing phenomena that require a permanent renewal of being.
