Activity Discussion of Bonnie Baxter’s work with Francois Morelli

Description

On March 16, starting at 5:30 pm, meet at Observatoire Place Ville Marie, as part of the Festival Art Souterrain Reset, for a meeting with Artist Bonnie Baxter and François Morelli.

Come and discuss her immersive installation: RATKIND & POPPIES where she invites the spectator to project himself into an unlikely utopian / dystopian future around a community of humanoid rats that have supplanted humans. Her presentation asks us to overcome our fear and hatred of rats and to overcome our preconceived ideas and prejudices.

Meeting in French and English.

The artwork

RatKind & Poppies is an immersive installation of works by Bonnie Baxter at the Summit Observatoire Place Ville Marie, as a satellite exhibition with the contemporary art festival  Art Souterrain . The exhibition combines prints from Baxter’s 2005 series “Poppies” with sculptures and video from her 2018 series “RatKind.”
“Poppies” employs the symbolism of loss and regeneration as a counterpoint to “RatKind” which dwells on the need for social change in order to face climatic crisis. RatKind acts as a metaphor for a humanity that has brought its greatest phobias into the light to face and overcome them in a re-imagined future.
