Artistic Statement
With this series of drawings, Louis Bouvier proposes an interpretation of the idea of anachronism. Working through montage, he multiplies visual strata, establishing a horizontal reading of art history and its canons.
With his photo-realistic drawings, he aims to metamorphose classical temporal periodization by deploying in the space of the canvas a personal vision of history and archaeology. On a single sheet of paper, a multitude of mediums and techniques are combined: watercolor, graphite, oil and colored pencil. This abundance is conducive to the creation of new points of contact, opening up new constellations of links.
With these visual assemblages, Bouvier shows that anachronism updates works from other eras, not only as a legacy of the past, but also as an integral part of current discourse. All the works presented here reflect on time and history, demonstrating that past and present are not linear. These different temporalities form a new present that does not flatten time, but rather multiplies it, freeing it from its linearity.
