Ariel Shea

Born in 1994 (Barrie, Ontario), Ariel Shea is a self-taught visual artist. She lives and works in Montreal.
Shea has shown her work in Montreal’s galleries such as Erga, Yellowfish and Centerfold. She had her first international show in Naples, Italy, in the winter of 2019 and has sold artworks across North America. She has also curated several art shows in Montreal.
Shea paints abstract expressionist landscapes and natural forms, incorporating figurative undertones. She is currently working on a new body of work surrounding abstracted landscapes, exploring how physical environments affect our psyche and the way we interact with the world.
About the artwork
Ariel Shea’s paintings are a construction made from memory and intuition. Through them, she studies colours, forms, and depth. Her inspiration stems from travels and walks through the city. Often, she will take her sketchbook and draw for hours using a black pen, graphite, or charcoal. This practice prepares her for in-studio painting as she can fumble around with lines, shapes, depth, and even styles while experimenting with negative space.
