Omar Victor Diop (Dakar, 1980) developed an interest in photography and design from an early age, seeking to capture the diversity of societies and ways of life in modern Africa. Between conceptual photography, portrait and fashion photography, his work has met great success at the Rencontres de Bamako, biennial of African photography, in 2011. This success encouraged him to devote himself entirely to photography: he explores it by confronting it with other mediums such as collage, design or costume.
Projet artistic : Diaspora
Omar Victor was noticed by his first series, "The Future of Beautiful" and "Studio of the Vanities", where he deepens his research between photography and design by exploring the codes of the portrait of African photography in a pop and modern aesthetic. In his "Diaspora" series he proposes a journey through time by revealing a rarely told story about the role of Africans outside Africa. For the first time, he is the subject of his art, adopting the position of narrator and character at the same time, and obliging himself to face his own doubts. He makes reference to the world of sport, that of football in particular, in order to showcase the duality of a life of glory and recognition which is also a lspent being "the Other".
