Le canari dans la mine
FRANÇOISE SEGARD and NOÉMIE Weinstein live and work in Montreal. Both hold Master’s degrees. Segard’s research focuses on aerial perspectives. Her artistic practice includes installation, drawing and specific pictorial techniques of encaustic. Weinstein’s paintings and drawings explore the notions of temporality, loneliness and absence through the representation of architectural spaces.
Artistic project : Le canari dans la mine
In this project, Françoise Ségard and Noémie Weinstein present two models of outdoor skating rinks similar to those found in Montreal. Installed in parks, these places of leisure and of group games are part of our winter cityscape. The artists imagine milder winters that would not allow ice to form and illustrate this in their work. In this project, the once hard, frozen surface of the ice will be removed from its original playful function. The game and the game space will be transformed according to geographical and environmental characteristics that make them unfit for use. They address here the idea of the fear surrounding climate change.
