SIGNAGE CONTEST: INVITED CITY
An exclusive directional sign system for our invited city, Barcelona
Art Souterrain has the pleasure to announce that the winner to our recent signage design competition is Martin Gagnon. His original directional sign system will guide and inform the visitors throughout the zone reserved to Barcelona, the invited city for the 2013 edition, which will be at Complexe Desjardins.
This directional sign system is conceptually based around the arrows, the guidance through the course. On the curator and artist posters, two intertwined arrows represent a labyrinthic course, an allusion to this year’s theme. The red arrow evokes Barcelona, while the gray one represents the concrete found in Montreal’s subterranean network. The interspersion is a metaphor of the two cities’ collaboration for this event, but they point in different directions to underline their actual geographical distance.
Martin Gagnon recently completed his D.E.C. in graphism, and is currently doing a Bachelors in graphic design at the University of Quebec in Montreal. We invite you to have a look through his portfolio at mngm.ca.
