Catherine Lisi-Daoust lives and works in Montreal. She studied visuals arts and art history at Concordia University before completing an MFA at the University of Québec in Montreal. Taking the form of writing and drawing, her work questions the relationship that occurs between the context of creation and the production of works of art.
Artistic project : Statements
The Statements project consists of transposing the artist statement onto wall magnets. Visitors are invited to appropriate the meaning of the text by assembling different compositions using the proposed vocabulary. Through the various reorganizations, the artist statement, key document in understanding the work of the artist, abandons its function and meaning of origin. The magnetic device highlights the fun and playful character of the work while concealing a potential reflection on the artist’s discourse and the role of spectator.
