Vélo à écrire
Born in Rimouski (QC) in 1985, live in Montreal.
In her performance practice, Caroline St-Laurent combines art and sports to engage in a critically feminist analysis of the cult of performance. Recently, female athletes put her devices to the test at OFFTA Festival, at the Tangente centre, as well as at a basketball court in Montreal (Agence Topo and Hors les murs Program).
Artistic project : Vélo à écrire
Ongoing performance from 8 pm to 10 am, with Laurie Torres (battery), Milaine Deroy and Lysandre Champagne (trumpet). Vélo à écrire plays on the distortions generated by a voice recognition software that allow new experiences to emerge. A rather unique rendering of a looped track is achieved through the joint actions of voice and body in motion. Flirting with the notions of spectacle and navigating between control and loss of control, this trial device reveals the overwhelming pressure to be productive in several spheres of our lives (work, hobbies, family, etc.). Performed by women, this project highlights the excessive restrictions that society imposes on female achievement and encourages us, through effort and pleasure, to reclaim our body, our boundaries and our time management.
